OK, so John F. Kennedy was the youngest person ever elected president, the youngest one to die while in office, and the first Roman Catholic President. Before he became President however, he went to Harvard University, graduated, and entered the Navy. His interests turned political after his PT boat was rammed into and sunk by the Japanese, (go figure on that one) but, despite his grave injuries he sustained, he led his men to safety in the perilous waters, thus, making him a war hero. His political career started out as he was a senator for the state of Massachusetts, from January 3,1953 to December 22, 1960. He was also in office in the U.S. House of Representatives (part of the 11th District of Massachusetts) from January 3,1947 to January 3, 1953. Kennedy also almost gained the Democratic Nomination for Vice President, but a short 4 years later, he got the Democratic Nomination for President. While he was running for president he appeared on television for presidential debates with his Republican Candidate Richard M. Nixon, making him popular since many people tuned into their t.v. sets to watch their charismatic Democratic Candidate speak on all sorts of subjects. Now, because he was a Catholic, his chances were slim, but he won the most electorial votes by a landslide, winning the presidency. He was in office from January 20, 1961 until his untimely death (assassination) on November 22, 1963. Before he was assassinated, he was a nobel peace prize winner, he also fought for Civil Rights, he also signed the executive order of the Presidential Commision on the state of Woman, which was issued in 1961, but it wasn't really passed until one month after his death (Oct. of 1963). And he was a war hero, and one of the best presidents I think we ever had and ever will have (in my opinion). On the day of his assassination which was Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dalla, Texas, at 12:30 p.m, 4 shots were fired, and two were injured, (Gov. John Conally and James Kague), along with one death; Kennedy's. The shots were fired by Lee Harvey Oswald. After his assassination, he was buried at Arlington National Cemetary, but he was later moved to a more permanent burial plot (within the same cemetary). His grave is lit by an "Eternal Flame". President Kennedy and President Taft are the only two U.S. presidents buried at Arlington.
